Ottawa, ON, June 22, 2012 – Invest Ottawa leads export-oriented economic development for our city and our region. It is a not-for-profit corporation committed to advancing Ottawa’s globally competitive, knowledge-based institutions and industries. This mandate requires the active engagement and commitment from the key economic leaders in our region. Invest Ottawa is in the process of building its 14-member board of directors to lead the organization and has launched a call for applications to fill three vacancies.
The board focuses on city wide, multi-stakeholder economic development initiatives that increase entrepreneurial momentum, foreign direct investment, wealth and jobs in the city of Ottawa. The board will engage all stakeholders in Ottawa’s economic development ecosystem to identify and champion three to five significant initiatives that will drive business investment and job creation. In addition to the board of directors, Invest Ottawa’s governance framework also includes working groups that engage directly with the Innovation, Investment and Trade and Creative Industries programs providing industry expertise.
“We know that leadership matters,” said Jeff Westeinde, who along with Mayor Jim Watson, co-chairs the Invest Ottawa board. “We’ve invited the leaders of Algonquin College, Carleton University, La cité collègiale, the University of Ottawa, representation from Ottawa Tourism and the Chambers of Commerce, as well as the chairs of Invest Ottawa’s working groups, to participate. We are now looking for experienced business leaders from the private sector who are known for their strong leadership in the community.”
The call for applications closes on July 13, 2012. Interested parties should send a letter of interest along with a resume and three personal references to board@investottawa.ca. Full details are available online at investottawa.ca/board-nominations.
